Festge Park’s 50th Anniversary

Friends of Festge, Dane County Parks and the Town of Berry held an event on September 14, 2013 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of when Otto and Evelyn Festge donated 12 acres of land to Dane County, starting Festge County Park. The event was held at Festge Park with Shelter #1 the central area for the festivities.

The day started with a reception and music by the Stoughton Area Jazz Collective, with Craig Mason, as bandleader.

Tony Varda, Chair of Town of Berry, was our Program Emcee. Further remarks were made by:

Joe Parisi, Dane County Executive
Jon Erpenbach, Wisconsin State Senator, District 27
Sue Hineline (ne Festge), Festge Family Representative
Gary Nelson, President of Friends of Festge
Christopher James, Dane County Parks

After our Program, we had a delicious potluck picnic sponsored by the residents of the Town of Berry followed by tours of the restoration areas, Boy Scout Troop 87 park projects and the Fairy House Village along the Carriage Road. Jerry and Connie Endres, owners of Tough Tripod of Waunakee, displayed their unique grill and grilled some of Doc Esser’s specialty brats.

We would like to thank the Town of Berry for donating drinks and dinnerware, Crossroads Coffeehouse of Cross Plains for coffee and Willy Street Co-op for fruit and cheese plates. Also, our thanks to Boy Scout Troop 2843 for assisting in parking and set-up along with the Cross Plains Lions Club for providing two tents for the day.
